Major Landforms of South America


The Amazon Basin is covered by the largest tropical rain forest in the world, and running through its heart is the Amazon River and its more than 1,000 tributaries.Measurable rain falls on an average of 2oo days a year and total rainfall often approches 1oo inches per year.



Andes

The Andes are a thooty-edged massive mountain system that extends from the tip pf South America all the way to Panama.Its highest point is Aconcagua.



Atacama desert

Running high the Andes of Chile this somewhat small desert ( or plateau) is a cold place and rainfall is very rare.



Brazilian highlands

This highland region is about 8oo miles lengh runs through the brazilian states of Minas Gerais,Bahia and Sao Paulo in southeastern Brazil.The highest point is Pao de Asucar.(Sugar Loaf)

Guiana highlands

A geographically stunning part of the planet Earth. The highlands stretch from southern Venezuela across the northern edge of South America to the tip of Brazil.The highest point is Mt.Roraima.



Llanos

This large and fertile plain is located in eastern and central Colombia,its drained by the Orinoco River and its approximately 582.ooo sq.km.



Pampas

They are farmed by its cattle ranches and its located  in central Argentina and extend almost 1.6oo km. The most important lanforms is the Uruguay River.


Patagonia
 Located between the Andes and the Atlantic Ocean and about 16oo km in lenght it stretches from Rio Negro River. Its mostly rugged,barren land , famed for its beauty and striking scenery.
